Deborah Ettinger
Native New Yorker · Debut Novelist
Born in New York City, Deborah Ettinger attended St. Vincent Ferrer High School and earned her RN degree from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing and Hunter College. She began her career as an ICU nurse in New York City before moving to Los Angeles.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, graduating magna cum laude from Chapman College, and completed postgraduate MBA studies at UCLA and California State University, Long Beach. Deborah held leadership roles, including Division Vice President for a national hospital system, and served as Senior Vice President for an international health care corporation, where she developed specialty clinical programs to improve patient care.
A lifelong fan of mysteries and thrillers, Deborah published her debut novel, Fiercely Loyal, with her brother, Tom Johnson. She is also an accomplished competitive ballroom dancer and lives in Southern California with her energetic Springer Spaniel, Oliver.
Tom Johnson
Native New Yorker · Veteran · Writer
Tom Johnson earned a degree in English Literature from Fordham University in New York. After serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Army Commendation Medal, he became a respiratory therapist in New York City hospitals, including Bellevue and NYU Medical Center.
He retired from Long Island University in Brooklyn as Assistant Professor and Program Director of Respiratory Care. His writing has appeared in Military History, Respiratory Care Journal, and AARC Times; he authored a chapter in the textbook Foundations of Respiratory Care and developed NIH-funded tuberculosis training cases for UCSD.
Tom’s first novel, Fiercely Loyal, was published in 2023, and Fiercely Hunted returns readers to New York’s dark world of crime, corruption, and chaos. He lives in San Diego with his wife and dog, where he amuses neighbors with his Brooklyn accent. Furgettaboutit.
Their shared roots give the series its gritty pulse — the waterfront, the neighborhoods, the gangs, the grief. Writing from the true story of their mother and uncle, Deborah and Tom set out not just to tell a story, but to honor the people who survived what most couldn’t.
